Travel down the West Coast of the South Island and really "get amongst it" with some of the most adrenalin pumping activities you can imagine. This tour is designed to be action packed so you can get a really good feel for adventure tourism in New Zealand, but will also give you the time to take a step back and have a look around so you can also appreciate the natural wonders that New Zealand has to offer. Are you ready?

Day 1 | Nelson

Welcome to day one of your adventure! You will either arrive into Auckland or Christchurch where you will need to take a domestic flight to Nelson. The first thing you will do is pick up your rental car, and then the rest of the day is to be spent at your leisure. Perhaps it is a good idea to rest up - your adventure is about to begin!

Day 2 | Nelson

Your day will start relatively early today in the beautiful Abel Tasman National Park. You will meet your kayaking guide and then embark on a magical day out on the water. You will explore the coastline and paddle past an endless variety of lagoons, islands and beaches and have the chance to encounter Fur Seals. You will return back to Kerikeri by approximately 5.00pm - a great first day adventure!

Day 3 | Nelson

Today is yours to spend however you wish - perhaps you could take an exciting 4x4 bike tour through lush forest, or maybe you would prefer to wander around and take in the local flavour that this artists paradise has to offer. You can swim with seals or go sailing or take a picturesque walk through native bush - the choice is yours.

To Hokitika

Day 4 | Nelson-Hokitika

Today you will drive down to Hokitika. If time allows, you can take a short detour to Cape Foulwind to view the seal colony which inhabits Tauranga Bay all year round. Continue down the coast, stopping for a hearty lunch along the way and a break at Punakaiki where you can see the mystifying blowholes and infamous pancake rocks. Hokitika is a quaint township and a fantastic location to pick up Pounamu (New Zealand Greenstone).

Day 5 | Hokitika

Today you will be taken to the Castle of the Underground where you will be guided through a cave system full of excitement, fun and possibly some challenges as well - this is your Black Water Rafting experience! You will travel through tunnels on a floating tube, slide down underground waterfalls, see glow worms and even ride the 100 foot natural rock hydroslide! Afterwards you will be taken back to base where a hot shower and a spa will be waiting to welcome you.

To Fox Glacier

Day 6 | Hokitika-Fox Glacier

Today you will carry on your drive down the West Coast through to Fox Glacier. Pass through Ross, a historic gold town, known for being one of the earliest goldfields on the West Coast. If time allows you can take a detour to Okarito, home to the largest unmodified wetland area in New Zealand. This is also a feeding ground for numerous wading birds including the rare Kotuku (white heron). When you arrive to Fox Glacier, settle in at your boutique hotel and enjoy your surroundings.

To Wanaka

Distance 264 km

Day 7 | Fox Glacier-Wanaka

Before you head off towards your next adventure, first you will be taken up in a helicopter to an exceptionally beautiful part of Fox Glacier. Following this you will then be guided along ice steps cut by guides to explore the beautiful formations and ice caves that surround the area. This experience is not only exciting, but it is one that you will probably remember for the rest of your life. Enroute to Wanaka there are a number of stunning walk options of varied length you may wish to explore.

Day 8 | Wanaka

Today will be your chance to experience this breathtaking area by plane, foot and jet boat! You will encounter the many different aspects of the Southern Alps and Mt Aspiring National Park. The scenic flight gives you views of rugged mountains, glaciers, river valleys, forest and waterfalls, the walk puts you right in amongst the nature, and the jet boat ride sends you on an exhilarating journey along the Wilkin River.

Day 9 | Wanaka

Today is a day of leisure for you, so you can be as active as you choose! There are a number of activities you can get involved in today, the only question you have to ask yourself is what to do first? You can take a scenic flight over stunning Mount Aspiring and the breathtaking Fiordland National Park or abseil through waterfalls within the canyons of the magnificent Matukituki Valley, the choice is yours!

Day 10 | Wanaka

Another day in Wanaka and another day for you to spend doing what you like to do best! Perhaps you would like to hurl yourself out of a plane at 15000 feet over Lake Wanaka... For something a little less death defying, you may like to spend a day with a local fishing guide, learning the ins and outs of trout fishing in New Zealand.

From Wanaka
To Queenstown
Travel Time 1.5 hours
Distance 117 km

Day 11 | Wanaka-Queenstown

This morning you can choose to stay in Wanaka for part of the day, or travel directly over to Queenstown, affectionately dubbed the Adventure Capital of New Zealand! When you arrive into Queenstown you will be able to check into your accommodation and perhaps take some time to familiarise yourself with the area. Take a drive to the Karawau Bridge Bungy and watch as people willingly throw themselves off and plummet to the Karawau River below.... You can try it too if you like!

Day 12 | Queenstown

The beauty of Queenstown is that there really is something for everyone and the adventure can be as extreme as you want it to be. You can get up early and take part in a hot air balloon ride within spectacular valleys near Lake Wakatipu or maybe you would like to sleep in a bit and then throw yourself off the side of a cliff and freefall for 60 metres before swinging out 200 metres over the Shotover River. Fill the rest of the day with whatever you choose!

Day 13 | Queenstown

Today is your last day in Queenstown, so this is the perfect opportunity to do something that you have never done before - river surfing along the mighty Karawau River, hand gliding above the picturesque Lake Wakatipu or feeling the adrenalin rush of taking a jet boat ride on the Shotover River - carpe diem! At the end of the day you can return home to your accommodation for a delicious dinner; it's time to relax on your last evening in New Zealand.

Day 14 | Departure

Today will be the last day of your New Zealand trip. You will need to drop your rental car off at Queenstown Airport, where you will either take a connecting flight to check in for your international flight, or depart directly from Queenstown.
